Cerebral Palsy

What is cerebral palsy?

Cerebral palsy is the name for a group of lifelong conditions that affect movement and co-ordination. It's caused by a problem with the brain that develops before, during or soon after birth (NHS website).

Cerebral means having to do with the brain. Palsy means weakness or problems with using the muscles.

TREATMENT

INITIAL ASSESSMENT
60 minutes £120*

During the initial consultation I take a full medical history and I watch how your child moves and plays. From this, I shall be able to provide a detailed developmental assessment and a plan for how future treatment can be integrated into your family life in a fun way.

I can provide you with additional  sources of  information and direct you to support groups.

If needed, I can discuss your child's case with other professionals to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach. I can also complete any onward referrals.

INDIVIDUALISED FOLLOW-UP SESSIONS
45 minutes £90*

Therapy is a play led approach, ensuring it can be integrated into day to day family life.

Individualised treatment sessions include ‘hands on’ therapy and teaching parents/carers the child's home exercise programme. I continually review and update the exercises as the child progresses.

Where appropriate, I carry out sessions in other locations, such as local leisure centres, pools, parks, soft play, school, nursery, playgroup and home visits. I provide advice on equipment, for example standing frames and walkers as well as orthotics.

I liaise with other professionals and NHS teams involved with your child, to ensure we are all working towards the same goals.

*RE-SCHEDULING AND CANCELLING APPOINTMENTS

We all know life can sometimes get in the way of best laid plans. If you need to re-arrange your appointment please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. The full fee will be charged if you do not attend your appointment without this prior notice.
